!!! THE COURSE IS CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH !!! Because understanding another nation's culture is not possible without at least a basic knowledge of its language, we focus our course on the (Mandarin) Chinese language. This seminar, carried out after two hours a week, aims to create and then systematically strengthen the student's ability to orient themselves independently in the heard Chinese discourse and develop skills in its spoken realization. During the course, the student is introduced to the perception and production of texts in modern colloquial Chinese. Through various exercises (drills), course participants are guided to the proper listening and pronunciation habits; they practice more profound phenomena that distinguish Chinese from English. Minimal emphasis is placed on understanding the Chinese language system: this is what the student, if interested, will learn best in a practical handbook of Chinese grammar. Attendees implement elementary sentence combinations and thus acquire basic competence in Chinese syntax, e.g. based on exercises in which they gradually combine individual words into larger and larger pronunciation and meaning units until they create a complete sentence structure. In this sentence, they then substitute some parts to activate the newly acquired vocabulary in the freshly recognized syntactic structure. It happens in 12 conversation circles.

Student performance, Seminar Work
Presence 80%. No written homework is assigned (the course is focused on the acquisition of written Chinese); the emphasis is on homework (especially active listening to the recording). The condition for granting the attestation is the completion of an oral interview in the scope of the Textbook of Chinese Conversation (Leda 2007), lessons 1-12. The student implements the corresponding sentences in Chinese based on help in English.
