Learning outcomes
This course is a seminar, meaning that students will be engaged in active work during class meetings, and is not a lecture (passive sitting and listening to the lecture). The course aims to familiarize students with American history through the lens of how we apply historical information to the study of philology, and basic methods of history research. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the basic timeline of American history - this course will focus on going in depth into different eras and questions. Students should not sign up for American and British history both in the same semester. Also, students cannot take the AAHI composite test until they have successfully finished and passed both American and British history courses.
The course graduate will acquire a basic knowledge of American history and academic skills that will help with further study of American culture and literature.

An interest in American history and culture, a good working knowledge of English.
