Course content
The cultural-historical and literary seminars deal with all manifestation of Jewish culture and art as well as social, political and media events. The contents of the literature seminars either refer to individual periods/ epochs of Jewish literature, or they are defined as an overview of the work of a specific author, several related authors, a developmental study of one genre, one or more motifs, topics or figural types, etc. In the seminar, the emphasis lies especially on work with particular texts of primary or secondary literature and on the creative work of students. Ahasverus-picture in the Czech and German written literature. The legend about the Schuster from Jerusalem, which has driwed away Jesus during his Calvary to Golgatha from his doorsill and was damned to the restless eternal life, was in Europe since 12. century known. In the german countrys appeared it in the early 17. century, exactly in 1602, when the legend gone trough the publication of the story Kurtze Beschreibung und Erzehlung von einem Juden /mit Namen Ahasverus/ to the resurection. Ahasver, The Wandering Jew - all these Names joined in one mysthic figure, Ahasverus, which found his root of descent in Schuster from Jerusalem. In the later processing get the Legend different comclusions and Ahasverus became a phenomenon, which inspirated many authors. In the framework fo the cours should be analysed the historic, cultural and sozial context of the Legend based on the schedulded texts, the genesis of the phenomenon "Ahasverus" and the attribute of the figure of The Wandering Jew as parallels to the wandering of the jewish nation in the diaspora.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the seminars is to offer an overview of the culture, art and literary heritage of Jewish communities.
The resulting competence after passing this module comprises further knowledge of questions regarding Jewish cultural, especially literary heritage, the ability to analyse a text/ scientific study, which is complex with respect to content and language, and to react to it through a short paper. Student will get an overview of the genesis of the phenomenon of The Wandering Jew and his reflections in the czech and german literature, the course should ensure an upgrade of the essays-writing competence
Prerequisites
The course is aimed for students od Jewish Studies, German Philology and interested students from other study programms.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work

Students are obliged to prepare for every seminar (set reading list) and participate actively in discussions. Each student will prepare a paper on a selected topic to be presented during the seminar. They will obtain credits at the end of the seminar. The maximum absence rate is 20%.
