Course content |
Jewish Vienna Past and Present The course provides an overview of the changing history of Jews in Vienna since the middle ages. After two introductory lessons about the rich Jewish past of the city that is closely linked to Moravian families (especially during the 19th and 20th century), two day trips to Vienna will introduce students to the material culture of Viennese Jews. This includes visits to 2 Jewish cemeteries, the Jewish Museum of Vienna, a guided tour on 'Jewish Ringstrasse' and a panel discussion with members of today's Jewish community. History seminars dealing with Jewish history intend to introduce chosen aspects of social, political, economic and cultural history of Jews. A particular emphasis is placed on an interdisciplinary approach to individual topics.
Students aquire competence in scholarly presentation, discussion skills, knowledge of Jewish topography in Vienna |
