Course content
Health and social sciences; the need for scientific cooperation, specialization and integration (divergence and convergence); definition of sociology; sociological approach. Determinants of human development from the perspective of sociology. Family and society; socialization; needs and interests, attitudes, motivation, values from the sociologist's point of view. Basic sociological concepts. Historical roots of modern sociology. Sociological research, where and why we use it, research methods. Sociological research - research techniques (observation, questionnaire, interview, content analysis, sociometry). Needs of motivation, focus and attitudes from the sociologist's point of view. Sociology of medicine and sociology in medicine (health care). Changing the societal importance of medicine in connection with its development. Social aspects of health, sociology of disease, social deviance. Sociology of medical facilities, hospital sociology. Nursing and patient relationship from sociologist perspective + case study.

Learning outcomes
The discipline introduces students to the basic problems of sociology, its history, paradigmatic bases and basic methodological approaches. It also focuses on sociology of health and disease, sociology of medicine and medical institutions, and research on the social aspects of health and disease and healthy lifestyles.
On completion of the course, students will have knowledge of the basic elements of sociological issues.

Activity in seminars, professional discussion, fulfillment of ongoing tasks in seminars. Fulfillment of 80% of tasks solved in lessons or seminar paper corresponding to topics of unfulfilled task in the range of 10 pages on a given topic.
