Course content
Psychic strain at work in health care Mental health content and its development Psychology of health and its relation to mental health Health education and prevention Category of health, normality and adaptation Performance, ability to work, tiredness and monotony, rest, sleep, adjustment of workplace, time-management Course of performance (biorhythm), work in shifts in health care Stress and strain, theory and concept of stress and its management, relaxation techniques (autogenic training, progressive muscle relaxation by Jacobson) Burnout syndrome in health care (prevention and intervention) Socio-psychological aspects of mental health Potentials and limitations of a healthy lifestyle, "healthy personality" concept

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to mental hygiene at work and in everyday life, explains the psychic strain of working in a demanding job in health care and focuses on dealing with difficult social situations. The course deals with individual application of methods and techniques aimed at development of interpersonal relationships and positive working climate at work.
After completion, student will be able to: - define the terms health, stress and its management, tiredness and performance, rest and relaxation techniques, healthy lifestyle, burnout syndrome - realise one's reactions in stress situations and deal with stress situations effectively - replace pathological reactions with more suitable patterns - apply relaxation techniques into praxis
