Course content

Topics: 1. Communication with pediatric patients/clients 2. Pre-operative assessment 3. Post-operative assessment 4. Pregnancy and childbirth 5. Newborn care 6. Student presenations The seminar consists of 14 hours of direct teaching and 10 hours of self-study and preparation. Total number of hours is 24.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to practice speaking in English, with focus on communication with patients/clients. The course revises and practices relevant grammatical structures, language functions and field-specific vocabulary. Students practise their presentations skills and prepare a final presentation on a topic of their choice. Students readily participate in classes, are interested in language learning and have sufficient language competence. The expected level of students' proficiency is B1/B2 CERF.
Students communicate readily in English, acquire a broad range of vocabulary related to pediatric nursing, develop their communicative and presentation skills.

Competence in English at least at the CEFR reference level B1/B2.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Analysis of linguistic
Attendance at least 80%, active participation in classes and completing assigned tasks. Final presentation on a chosen topic.
