Course content
Definition and categorization of physiatry. General indications of physiatry based on the needed effect; application of individual physical agents based on the stage of the movement system disorder; the status of physiatry in rehabilitation; photo-therapy - IR, UV, visible light. Galvanotherapy. Direct electrical current flow in tissues, chemical reactions on the electrodes, influence on neuro-muscular system irritability, galvanotherapy application methods. Low-frequency electrotherapy. Träbert current, TENS, SIP, Diadynamic current - principles of effect, utilization in complex therapy of a patient. Mid-frequency electrotherapy. Effects of individual frequencies, resulting frequency modulations, modulated impulse current, interference therapy. Electro-diagnostics of neuro-muscular system. Skeletal muscles stimulation. Classical and modern electrodiagnostics, It curve, differences. Components of physiatry. Effectiveness based on the types of agents, general indication principles. Work safety on the electrotherapy worksite. Thermotherapy and phototherapy. Sources, effects, indications and contraindications hyper- and hypo-thermal stimuli, IR and UV light, visible light, sources, effects, application methods, indications and contraindications. Galvanotherapy. Direct electrical current flow in tissues, chemical reactions on the electrodes, protective solutions, galvanization, galvanic bath for extremities, electrotherapy tub, indications, contraindications. Iontophoresis. Effects, dosage, application methods, indications, contraindications. Low-frequency electrotherapy. Impulse types, effects of frequency ranges, Träbert current - application methods, indications, contraindications. TENS. Effects, dosage, application methods, indications, contraindications. Diadynamic current. Fundamental of effect, types, dosage, indications, contraindications. Mid-frequency electrotherapy. Characteristics, fundamentals of effect, interference therapy - methods, effects, applications, indications, contraindications. Classical and modern electrodiagnostics. Chronaxy, rheobase, accommodation coefficient, I/t curve. Stimulation of denervated muscle. Differences in stimulation of intact and denervated muscle, motor points. Electrostimulation. Modulated impulse currents, Russian Stimulation, Mid-frequency currents, TENS, classical impulse therapy. High-frequency therapy and magnetotherapy. Effects, dosage, application methods, indications, contraindications. Ultrasonotherapy. Effects principles, application methods, dosage, indications, contraindications. Laser therapy. Effects, application methods, indications, contraindications.

Learning outcomes
Introduction to further possibilities in rehabilitation care - treatment and diagnostics by means of electrotherapy and electrodiagnostics; basics of electrotherapy and electrodiagnostics; acquiring principal safety habits for the application of electrotherapy in practice.
Students will acquire a general overview, will be able to apply electrotherapy in specific diagnoses and will master the basics of electrodiagnostics.
