Course content
The course is taught in the form of six practical seminars and is completed with a course credit. Students have access to three supporting study materials for self-study via Moodle. Thematic areas: Defining keywords, advanced search techniques, and searching in freely accessible sources such as the Palacký University Library catalogue, the Knihovny.cz portal, the Theses.cz repository of higher education qualification theses, and other resources. Introduction to the Palacký University Portal of Electronic Information Resources and the EBSCO Discovery Service search system. Presentation of selected databases available through the Palacký University Portal of Electronic Information Resources. The seminar covers the Czech online library Bookport, the PressReader database, and selected collections provided by ProQuest. Introduction to citation practices. Students are introduced to basic citation terminology, citation styles, the definition of plagiarism, and practical examples of citation methods. Citation generators and reference managers; working with the citation manager Citace PRO Plus. Artificial intelligence in research, AI in relation to academic ethics and integrity; presentation of selected tools utilizing AI-based principles.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the development of appropriate search strategies, the formulation of search queries, and the definition of keywords for their final theses. The course also includes demonstrations of practical searching for relevant scholarly sources in both freely accessible and licensed databases of Palacký University. Attention is also paid to the use of AI-based research tools, and the course further introduces the principles of proper citation, citation ethics, and plagiarism prevention.
pon successful completion of the course, students will acquire the ability to develop basic search strategies corresponding to the topics of their final theses, formulate effective search queries, and correctly define keywords. They will be able to independently search for relevant scholarly sources in both freely accessible and licensed databases of Palacký University and to orient themselves in the basic types of information sources. The acquired skills also include the use of AI-based research tools as a supportive means when working with information, as well as the ability to critically assess the relevance and quality of retrieved information. Students will also become familiar with the principles of proper citation, citation ethics, and the fundamentals of plagiarism prevention.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of computer literacy and the ability to critically evaluate the information obtained.

Credit is awarded for studying online materials, active participation in seminars and completion of the final task.
