Course content
|
1. Specificity of the iconography and stylistic character of the Hussite art, principally of painting and sculpture. 2. Development of architecture in Bohemia and Moravia between 1420-1471. 3. Sculptures of Hans Multscher and Jakob von Kaschau and their importance for Czech sculpture in 15th century. 4. Development of sculpture in Bohemia and Moravia between 1436-1471. 5. Development of painting in Bohemia and Moravia between 1436-1471. Influences of Netherlandish realism (Altar from Rajhrad, Assumpta of Deštná etc.). 6. The sculptural work of Nicolaus Gerhaert of Leyden and its influence on Czech sculpture in the end of the 15th century and at the beginning of the 16th century. 7. Reports of students on selected topics of seminary works.

Learning outcomes
|
Art of the Hussite period, of reign of Jiří of Poděbrady and of the beginnings of Jagiellonian era represents an important chapter in the history of Czech art in the late Middle Ages. The aim is to acquaint students with the development of architecture, sculpture and painting of this era in Bohemia and Moravia. Attention will be focused on the specificity of the Hussite art in the Czech lands and on the stylistic pluralism in art during the reign of Jiří of Poděbrady. Also reflected will be the influence of European artistic centres on artistic development in the Czech lands. The course includes also a seminar for students, in frame of which the students elaborate a seminary work on the chosen topic. Students will present their seminary works during the classes.
Students of the subject obtain the basic knowledge of Czech and Central European Art between 1420-1471.

Subject is designated for students of Master study of History of Fine Arts.

|
Student performance
Credit: Elaboration of seminary work on the chosen topic in the range of at least 7 standard pages and its presentation in the seminar.
