Course content
Thematic headings: 1. the development of the method of building-historical research, from its beginnings in the first half of the 20th century to its full establishment within the framework of systematic knowledge of individual monuments and monumental units, which was promoted mainly by Dobroslav Líbal from the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. 2. 3. Relation of SHP to other research and documentation methods in monument practice - archaeology, stratigraphic surveys, material analyses, dendrochronology, etc. 4. Practical part - "reading" the building, its architectural and construction details in the field with subsequent interpretation of the probable structural development of a particular building or its part. 5. Basic SHP documentation methods - photo documentation, simple orientation and verbal description of the building or e.g. the most valuable architectural elements.

Learning outcomes
Introducing the students to the issue of building historical survey as a key method for understanding the history of built heritage. After completing the course, students should be able to have a basic understanding of the structural development of historic buildings and their documentation methods.
The students understands the methodology, textual and graphic outputs of the building historical survey.
Prerequisites
General knowledge of heritage conservation themes.

Student performance

Credit will be awarded for a well-prepared building-historical analysis of a selected object of historical value.
