The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive and as complete as possible overview of the theory and practice of restoration and conservation interventions. Students will acquire knowledge about the origins and history of European national restoration schools, theories of restoration, and the origins and history of the Czech restoration school in an international context. The course will also focus on examples of collaboration between art historians, restorers, and technologists in researching the artistic, historical, and technical specifics of works of art. Students will become familiar with key restoration procedures for the restoration of selected works of art. Practical examples will be used to analyze selected ongoing or recent restoration interventions and their conceptual foundations.
