Course content
1 The structure of dissertation and its formalities. 2 Styles and established practices in accordance with the tradition of art history in the Czech Republic. 3 The objectives and hypothesis. 4 Methodology and Concept. 5 Analysis versus Synthesis in a scientific text. 6 Description, commentary, essay as a means of representing an issue with a scientific text. 7 Lexical aspect of scientific text, terminology and its applicat0ion in sentences. 8 The structure of the critical evaluation of interim research results concerning the given issue as a compulsory part of the dissertation. 9 Umění/Art Journal citation standards and the quotation of unpublished (archival) sources. 10 Abstract / Summary. Bibliography. 11 Attachments (files, lists, legends, references). 12 Written text and its presentation (defence).

Learning outcomes
The seminar is focused on writing a professional text, on the specifics of working with sources and literature and on practical aspects of capturing a work of art in a professional text.
The ability to write an abstract formulating the objectives and methods of the research work, which addresses a specific art-historical issue. Knowledge of the Umění Journal citation standards.
Prerequisites
Assigned/chosen topic of MA diploma thesis.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Compulsory attendance - a maximum of two absences per semester are allowed. Presentation of a master's thesis at a stage appropriate to the progress of the study. Completion of written assignments related to the completion of the thesis. Active participation in class discussion, especially in discussions of individual theses.
