The course Art of the second half of the 20th century/ Conceptual Approaches to Art is devoted to the history of art and visual culture in the second half of the 20th century, drawing parallels between events in the Czech lands and in Europe, with natural overlaps into the global context. It will examine key moments of post-war consolidation and transformation: the emergence of a bipolar world, globalization, the revolutionary year of 1989, and the related transformations of the concept of art, the emergence of the "art world," or institutional definitions of art, horizontal art history, etc. Attention will be paid to changes in artistic practice in the broader context of socio-political events, but also to art-historical methodology itself. The course includes regular visits to exhibitions, museum and gallery collections, and studios, as well as reading texts and discussions.
