The course deepens the knowledge of the artistic production of Central European artistic centres in the late medieval period, i.e. from the 12th to the 15th century, from the perspective of individual themes. It will point out developmental tendencies, iconic themes, cultural and stylistic transfer and the specific historical and social circumstances in which the works were produced. The focus of the course is on artistic wholes and the work in context - within which the relationship of medieval works to cult, ruler and urban representation will be explained. A seminar on medieval art is an integral part of the course, in which texts from both the primary and secondary literature on each topic will be read.
