Course content
|
1. Development of Burgundian and Netherlandish art in the 15th century, with emphasis on culture in the court of the Duke of Burgundy Philip the Good and Charles the Bold. 2. Influence of Netherlandish realism in the Central European painting in the first half of the 15th century. 3. Development of Austrian paintings between 1350-1500 (Master of Albrecht´s Altar, Master of the Scottish monastery altar, Hans Siebenburger etc.). 4. Development of German painting between 1350-1500 (Master of Tucher´s altar, Martin Schongauer etc.). 5. Development of German painting in the years 1500-1500; Albrecht Dürer and his influence on the early Renaissance German painting. 6. Development of Austrian painting between 1500-1550 (Bernhard Strigel, Lucas Cranach the Elder etc.). 7. Paintings of German origin between 1350-1550 in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague. 8. Paintings of Austrian origin between 1350-1550 in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the development of Central European painting between 1350-1550, in lectures is emphasis put on the development of painting in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Burgundy and partially in Italy. Particular attention is paid to important paintings of foreign origin located in Czech art collections, especially in the National Gallery in Prague.
Basic knowledge of the development of Central European painting between 1350-1550 and development of the Burgundian art of the 14th and the 15 century.

Subject is designated for students of Bachelor study of History of Fine Arts.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance
Oral report (with visual presentation) on a selected topic in the range of about 20 minutes, handing in of written form of report with list of appropriate literature (max. 2 standard pages).
