Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces students to the main epochs of the development of architecture and art of the early and high Middle Ages in the Czech lands. The introductory lectures will focus on architecture and arts and crafts in the period of Great Moravia. The following lectures will focus on Romanesque architecture, sculpture and painting in the Bohemian lands. Special attention will be paid to the personality of Bishop Jindřich Zdík of Olomouc and his artistic patronage. Students will also be given an explanation of architecture and visual arts during the reign of the last Přemyslid kings. The end of the semester will be devoted to lectures on the visual arts during the reigns of John of Luxembourg and Charles IV.
Orientation in the issues of artistic and architectural creation of the specific period in the Czech lands; knowledge of key works, artists and types of art commissions; developing skills of reception and interpretation of works of art.

Assessment methods and criteria
