This course examines diverse aspects of social reality in Korea (primarily South Korea) as explored in recent research. In addition to its thematic focus, the course adopts a meta-critical perspective on research. Students will read and critically assess academic articles by comparing the declared methods with how they are actually implemented in practice, evaluating the extent to which the articulated theories yield meaningful results, and examining whether the actual research process - as far as it can be gleaned from what the article reveals - is appropriately and sufficiently reflected in the methodological description and whether it is justified in relation to the study's conclusions. This approach is designed to sharpen students' analytical skills and prepare them to produce robust, reflective research for their MA thesis.
