Learning outcomes

The course wants to develop the ability of students at all study levels to work with the public opinion survey data, which is a popular way to study public attitudes towards various issues. We will use our own Sinophone Borderlands survey data (www.sinofon.cz/surveys) which is currently most comprehensive and detailed source of public attitudes towards China in various countries of Asia and worldwide, but which also allows to study other topics not related to China. Students of the course are not required to have any previous knowledge or skills. Throughout the course they will learn how to form research questions, design questionnaires, analyze and visualize data (including using simple softwares such as JASP, Excel, Infogram), and produce a paper. Students will get access to the Sinophone Borderlands data and throughout the semester they will work under supervision towards a final paper which may be eventually published.
