Course content
1. Introduction of the course topics and formal requirements, 2. Modern history of the Philippines: from pre-Colonial times to modern times, 3. the political system, 4. socio-economic development, 5. cultural and societal issues, 6. foreign policy issues, 7. the South China Sea dispute, 8. migration and Filipino communities in Europe, 9. the Czech-Philippine relations, 10. discussion and conclusion

This is an introductory course, thus no previous knowledge about the Philippines is required. At the end of the course, students will take a test, comprising of multiple choice and open questions. To help preparing them for the test, all online lectures will be recorded, so they can watch them multiple times. Moreover, additional literature will be made available on Moodle. In week 7, a short test course (20 minutes) which will not be graded will be run to familiarize students with the final test.
