Course content
Introduction to the subject (basic characterization of classical Japanese language, e.g. its phonological development, etc.), using grammar tables, reading dictionaries of classical Japanese, historical grammar, short texts and their translations.

Learning outcomes
This course aims to teach students the basic differences between modern and historical Japanese language, teach them to understand development of Japanese as such, be able to use important grammatical tables, dictionaries and texts, motivate them to try to translate poetry and prose into both modern Japanese and Czech. The course also aims to clarify differences in Japanese in various historical periods. All of this should arouse deeper interest in language and literature, help better understanding of traditional Japanese values, and also motivate thinking about ways of translations, about the archaic form occurring in modern Japanese, etc.
