1. Geology, Landmasses, and Relief - the influence of terrain on human movement, barriers to migration, and related risks (Kučera) 2. Climate and Weather - the influence of winds on trade routes and migration, the impact of climate on the spread of agriculture, monsoons and typhoons (Kučera) 3. Water as a Source of Life - inland waters, rivers and river systems, and settlement patterns (Günther) 4.Water as a Transportation and Migration Artery - seas and oceans, ocean currents (Pokorný) 5. Millet, Rice, and Wheat - the stories of early agricultural civilizations and their spread (Kučera) 6. Cultivated Crops, Eurasian Contact, and Late Introductions - cultural exchange among Europe, Asia, and the Americas 7. Spices and Trading Empires (Pokorný) 8. The Spread of Cultures and Language Families - an introduction to linguistic genealogy (Kratochvíl) 9. The Demographic Revolution - the impact of colonialism and modernity (Günther) 10. The Industrial Revolution (Lavička) 11. Modern Transportation and the Topology of Transport Networks (Lavička) 12. Strategic Resources in History and the Present Day (Lavička)

The course focuses on an introduction to selected topics in historical and social geography within the context of the history of Central, Eastern, and Southeast Asia, with particular emphasis on issues of population migration, including its causes and consequences.

- Midterm Test (20%): Geographic concepts and work with a blank map. - Final Written Exam (80%): Open-ended questions and tasks related to the topics covered during the semester. - Active Participation in Class: Regular preparation and engagement in classroom activities are required. A maximum of three absences is permitted.
