Learning outcomes |
A key focus of this course is the development of students' knowledge and skills to effectively navigate the complex political, economic, social, and technological environments of globalizing Asian countries, with particular emphasis on China, Japan, Korea, India, and Vietnam. Students will gain valuable insights into the unique challenges and opportunities businesses face in these diverse and dynamic economies. The course will also explore strategic business responses to these challenges, equipping students with formal models and frameworks to develop effective strategies tailored to the Asian context. Another critical aspect is examining managerial practices in Asia, comparing them with Anglo-Saxon corporate governance structures, business norms, and legal frameworks. This comparative approach will help students understand the cultural and institutional factors that influence business operations in Asia, equipping them with the skills to succeed in both regional and global markets. By session #3, students will present their "educational" business ideas. These can range from simple concepts, such as launching a travel agency to organize trips to Korea or offering guided tours for Chinese tourists, to more sophisticated ventures if students have access to advanced business information. After session #5, students will prepare a PEST analysis. By session #8, they will present a matrix to assist businesses in entering Asian markets. In the final portion of the course, we will analyze case studies to understand the unique aspects of Asian managerial practices, comparing them to Anglo-Saxon approaches.
