Course content
The essence of MK 2 will be working on real mediation cases - selection of a case suitable for mediation, preparation phase, mediation itself, evaluation and conclusion. The knowledge acquired in MK 1 will be further enhanced by the following topics: 1. Facilitation and negotiation 2. Questions and their functions in mediation 3. Verbal and non-verbal in mediation 4. Emotions and their role in mediation 5. Ethical aspects of mediation 6. Specifics of mediation according to areas of practice

Learning outcomes
The main aim of the course is to provide mediation in real cases and to gain competences for independent mediation in future practice. Other objectives are to promote and develop practical mediation skills, mediation knowledge and interdisciplinary skills in dispute resolution. Students will thus be more comprehensively prepared for their own legal practice with the possibility of choosing the most appropriate case resolution procedure. Based on the established criteria, students will select a case suitable for mediation and, in comediation with the instructor or under his/her supervision, practically carry out the mediation. Reflective seminars, evaluation of activities and developmental self-reflection will be an important part of the training. The course foresees close cooperation with the Student Legal Advice Centre and regional mediation centres according to their focus. Knowledge Objectives: Orientation of students in the methods of out-of-court dispute resolution and their possibilities, knowledge of the mediation method, its principles, process, characteristics of relationships, application areas of mediation, ethical aspects and legal conditions of its provision in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, knowledge of aspects of conflict situations, identification of a case suitable for mediation according to established criteria and knowledge of the advantages and limits of mediation in practical application. Skill objectives: Students will be prepared to provide mediation services. They will be able to establish a respectful and trusting relationship with the parties to a dispute, navigate their conflict situation and plan an appropriate course of action based on the subject matter of the dispute and their needs and interests. They will learn how to structure and conduct the mediation process, using in particular active listening and negotiation techniques. They will acquire the skill of self-reflection and perceptive reflection of clients. The course will also contribute to the student's personal and professional development.
The student will gain practical experience in providing mediation in real cases. The student will also deepen his/her mediation competences. The student will expand his/her knowledge of the basic characteristics of mediation and the conditions of its performance by deepening the topics. The student will be prepared to provide mediation services in his/her future practice.

Enrolment in the course is conditional upon completion of Mediation Clinic 1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

The student participates in all parts of the class with the completion of assigned tasks. The class consists of an introductory workshop, providing mediation services in real cases, and additional seminars. The introductory workshop of the Mediation Clinic 2 is organized by the Department of Clinical Legal Education and Professional Skills Development of the PF UP Olomouc. It is conceived as a training to deepen mediation skills. Those interested in the course will be selected in a selection process based on an application form with a statement of motivation. The course is primarily skill-based. Students' practical performance will be the main criterion for their evaluation.
