Course content
|
Lectures: History of biotechnologies, division, green biotechnology. Potential of plant cell and principle of plant tissue culture (technigues preserving and technigues increasing genetic variability of plants) and application in practice. Using of plant biotechnologies in agriculture, pharmaceutical industry, keeping the gene pool and phytoremediation. GMO of field crops. Application biotechnological methods in pea,bean and flax breeding. Practices: Preparation of media, establishment of aseptic culture. Micropropagation, androgenesis, embryogenesis. The basics of working with GMOs. Agrobacterium genetic transformation of peas and beans, and the effect of co-cultivation period on transformation efficiency.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim is to build on the general subjects (general biology, plant physiology, genetics, ecology) two-field teaching students study "Biology Teacher for Secondary Schools" a single-subject study "Botany" and expand knowledge in the field of biotechnology, particularly plant thereby increasing not only an overview of modern biotechnology, but also their competitiveness in their application in practice after graduation. The aim of the course established for students is also a direct confrontation with practice. Students will be able to include their acquired knowledge in the teaching of biology at primary and secondary schools.
Knowledge - basic terms in area of plant biotechnologies using of plant biotechnologies in practice Student obtains experience working in an aseptic environment at selected primary explant culture methods used in the context of plant breeding - anther culture, embryocultures, micropropagation of plants. Learns about the equipment of laboratories dealing with GMO plants and tries to transform plants erudite work.

Prerequisites
|
Student is able to orientation in the issue of plant biotechnologies,methods, their practices and questions of genetic modified plants (benefits and disadvantages).

Dialog
Participation in the exercises. Own a short presentation (5 min) on the topic of biotechnology.
