1. Introduction to Onomastics 2. Japanese personal names - basic characteristics of given names, most common surnames 3. Selection criteria, characters in names 4. Development of the graphic form and the structure of names, typical structural patterns 5. Issues of so-called kirakira nému 6. Reflection of time and social values in given names 7. The symbolism of plant motifs and numbers in names 8. Gender in Japanese names 9. Hypocoristics, nicknames 10. Student presentations 11. Student presentations

Learning outcomes
This course focuses on Japanese propria. The aim of the course is to get acquainted with their specifics, especially the specifics of given names - their graphic and phonological form, traditional structure and current trends. Attention will be paid to the method and criteria of their selection, their changes over time and the social values they reflect in their graphic form.

Prerequisites
The course is intended for 2nd and 3rd year Bachelor's and Master's students.
