The content of the lectures: Culture and society and methods of their analysis Basic sources of Japanese identity Key concepts of Japanese culture Image of Japanese culture outside Japan Japanese tradition during the year in the past and today Traditional concepts of Japanese aesthetics Traditional Japanese culture and art Japanese contemporary culture and the arts Traditional and contemporary way of living Clothing, eating habits, etc.

The course is designed not only for Japanese majors but also for other students who want to learn about the Japanese culture, both traditional and contemporary.
Upon completion of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the basic characteristics of traditional and contemporary Japanese culture and its frequently discussed phenomena and stereotypes. They have demonstrated the ability to research information on a given topic. |
