Academic writing - part 2. Bibliography, sources, e-sources. 5. Phonetics. Phonology. Japanese phonological system. Grammar. 6. Working with Japanese sources. Czech transcription of Japanese. Declension of Japanese words and names in Czech. 7. Morphology. Parts of speech in Japanese. Syntax. Japanese syntax. 8. Using the Japanese kanji dictionaries - part 1. 9. Lexicology. Lexicography. Word formation. Semantics. Japanese vocabulary. 10. Using the Japanese kanji dictionaries - part 2. 11. Rhetoric. Etymology. Dialectology. Japanese dialects. 12. Politeness in Japanese. Japanese language styles. Modern linguistic disciplines.

Learning outcomes
The course is conceived both as an introduction to linguistics in general and then as an introduction to Japanese linguistics. Lectures are focused on clarifying the basic concepts of linguistics and general overview of the development of basic linguistic theories with emphasis on the main current trends in modern linguistics. The course also focuses on the overall brief overview of the characteristics of the Japanese as an agglutinative language and its comparison with the Czech language (phonetics, morphology, lexicology, syntax). The students also learn to interpret scientific texts and acquire basic rules of academic writing, as well as basic knowledge of studying Japanese sources.
Upon successful completion of the course students will have gained basic knowledge in the field of linguistics in general and Japanese linguistics in particular.
Prerequisites
The course is designed for students of the 1st year of the Bachelor´s programme of Japanese Philology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

preparation for classes (reading assignments), presentation on a given topic, final examination (70% = passing)
