Course content |
1. Introductory lesson: course content, discussion/questionnaire - learner's motivation Introduction to language: integration of Vietnamese into language and cultural context Phonetics: alphabet, Vietnamese tones Simple Dialogue: greetings, introductions 2. Phonetics: consonants compound, compound vowels, the pronunciation of problematic syllables Vocabulary: names of countries and continents, nationalities, numbers Dialogue: introduction of persons 3. Practice: introduction of persons Grammar: Present continuous tense; question: What are you doing? and answers by using the new vocabulary Vocabulary: basic verbs Addressing: introduction to Vietnamese addressing system due to the position in society A simple topical song (passive vocabulary) 4. Grammar: present, past and future tense (particles) Practice: new grammar and vocabulary already mastered (formation of sentences, cloze test) A short dialogue (reading from a paper) 5. Repetition: grammar summary, vocabulary, exercises, cloze tests, active dialogues (scenes) in pairs and/or small groups; debate on cultural topics 6. Mid-term test Introducing Vietnam: regionalization, presentations of natural and cultural monuments Presentation of Vietnamese culture (traditions, lifestyle, literature, music, clothing, etc.). 7. Grammar: interrogative sentences with the verb "có", willing/ability; questions How? How much? Why? Where? When?, practicing interrogative sentences Cultural window: repetition of topics from the last lesson 8. Dialogue: invitation for a meal (by using How?, When? Where? What time?) Vocabulary: numbers, hours, days of the week, months, verbal repetition and extension of vocabulary 9. Video: movie, film series, music videos 10. Guest lecture: excursion to Vietnamese phonetics 11. Repetition: grammar summary, vocabulary, exercises, active dialogues (scenes) in pairs or groups 12. Final Test Evaluation of the course, discussion of future motivation to study Vietnamese Presentation of cultural specifics on student's request

Learning outcomes |
Introductory course will bring the language learner basics of Vietnamese language and will highlight attractions of Vietnam and its culture. The course focuses primarily on language teaching and language skills. Yet in the case of Asian languages it ??is always necessary knowledge of cultural contexts (e.g. the family hierarchy, introduction system, appropriate gifts etc.) that will properly complement language learning and motivate students to study. The aim of teacher is to show students the path to a new culture through language, which will be activated in lessons.
