This course aims to help students acquire the basic cultural knowledge and language skills necessary for living in a Chinese-speaking environment, with a focus on Chinese society and culture. The course will cover topics closely related to Chinese culture, including but not limited to: Festivals (Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival) Traditional Stories (Folktales, Mythology) Philosophy (Confucianism, Daoism) Religion (Daoism, Buddhism, Folk Beliefs) Customs (Weddings, Funerals, Birthdays) Lifestyle and Culture (Chinese Cuisine, Clothing, Movies, Songs, TV Shows) In this class, we will collaboratively create a "Chinese Culture Handbook" to assist students who are about to go to China in quickly adapting to the local environment. Each group of students will be responsible for a specific cultural topic. At the end of the semester, all the topics will be compiled into a complete " Chinese Culture Handbook" for each student. This course is offered to second-year or above students in the Chinese Studies program.

1) Vocabulary quizzes There will be vocabulary quizzes in some classes, and the lowest scores will be dropped. 2) Final Project We will create a "Chinese Culture Handbook" that will help students who are about to go to China/ Taiwan quickly adapt to the new environment. Each group of students can choose a topic, and by the end of the semester, all the topics will be compiled to create a comprehensive Chinese Culture Handbook for every student. 3) Homework The main focus of the homework will be to collect relevant information based on the weekly course topics. 4) Presentation During the semester, there will be a presentation that primarily explains your plan and outline for the final project. - You are allowed to take two leaves of absence. Absence of more than twice will result in a 5% deduction from the attendance score for each additional absence. - Using mobile phones during class is prohibited unless you need to access information related to the course. - There will be vocabulary quizzes in some classes, and the two lowest scores will be dropped. There will be no makeup exams for absences. - Assignments can be submitted with a one-week extension at the latest; after one week, they will no longer be accepted. - If you miss a quiz due to being late, you will not be allowed to make up the missed quiz.
