The course is designed to provide students with basic language skills necessary for living in a Chinese-speaking environment. The course will cover various topics including accommodation, ordering food, shopping, transportation, asking for help, city tours, making friends, seeing the doctor, and hunting for jobs. In this class, we will be creating a Taiwan Survival Handbook to assist students who are about to go to Taiwan in quickly adapting to the new environment. Each group of students will be responsible for a specific topic, and at the end of the semester, all the topics will be compiled to create a Taiwan Survival Handbook for every student. * This course is offered to students in their second year or above in the Chinese Studies program.

1) Vocabulary quizzes There will be vocabulary quizzes in some classes, and the two lowest scores will be dropped. 2) Final Project We will create a "Taiwan Survival Handbook" that will help students who are about to go to Taiwan quickly adapt to the new environment. Each group of students can choose a topic, and by the end of the semester, all the topics will be compiled to create a comprehensive Taiwan Survival Handbook for every student. 3) Homework The main focus of the homework will be to collect relevant information based on the weekly course topics. 4) Presentation During the semester, there will be a presentation that primarily explains your plan and outline for the final project. - You are allowed to take two leaves of absence. Absence of more than twice will result in a 5% deduction from the attendance score for each additional absence. - Using mobile phones during class is prohibited unless you need to access information related to the course. - There will be vocabulary quizzes in some classes, and the two lowest scores will be dropped. There will be no makeup exams for absences. - Assignments can be submitted with a one-week extension at the latest; after one week, they will no longer be accepted. - If you miss a quiz due to being late, you will not be allowed to make up the missed quiz.
