This course has been inovated in frame of the project Inovation of the Chinese Philology programme at Palacky University in Olomouc with focuse on fulfilment of the graduates in practise, reg. no. Learning outcomes
|
Two-semestrial course Geography of China's (X/DL1 and X/DL2) main object is to introduce the students into general geographical information about China and to enable the student to work with these information, critically analyze them and to interpret them. The course is mainly focused on socio-economic geography, however, the first part (main part of the X/DL1) is focused on physical geographical topics which are related to those from socio-economic sphere. The main skills the students are required to learn in the course are as following: 1) Wider factographic knowledge about China which is consequently implemented into the further study and in practise of the student. 2) The ability of the student to critically analyze, interpret and generalize the general factographic information. 3) The course course is also focused on particular information useful in the practise such as those about Chinese companies, about Chinese economic environment, economic and social transition of China, opportunities, limits, threats and weaknesses of contemporary China and of its further development. All these information can be used by the student in the future while looking for a job (eg. in tourism, interpreting, lecturing, analyses of the Chinese market etc.) 4) The knowledge from this course is the general framework necessary for further education in Asian Studies.

Prerequisites
|
The course is designed for students of bachelor study I. Block Field CHINESE PHILOLOGY. It is a compulsory course and there is no condition of any other previous course to be successfully done prior to the DL1.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
1) Presense is not required but strongly recommended. All handouts, including the PPT presentations from lectures, study papers, maps, URL links etc. will be available online. However, these handouts include all information, not the analyses, interpretation and explanations themselves. 2) Each semester will be terminated by two tests, each composed of question of a total value 100 points. For succesfull passing of this course, minimum of 70 % of points from both tests is the minimal requirement with no less than 50 % of points from any of two tests. 3) The X/DL1 (first semester) is terminated by credited testing only. The oral exam is only in the second semester.
