Course content
The course consists of three class hours. The first is taught by a Czech instructor and focuses on vocabulary and grammar. The next two hours are taught by a native speaker together with assistants and focus on conversational practice. Students also have the opportunity to attend individual language tutorials with a native speaker aimed at intensive practice of the material covered. The course includes Lessons 7-12 from The Routledge Advanced Chinese Multimedia Course: Crossing Cultural Boundaries (Lee et al., 2014, 2nd ed.) and covers the following topics: C. Cultural Traditions 7. Chinese food culture 8. Confucianism in modern China 9. Chinese architecture in transition D. History and Politics 10. "Educated youth" 11. A start for democracy 12. Cross-Strait relations

Learning outcomes
The course builds on the previous course CIN5B and is intended for fourth-year students who have completed a one-year study stay abroad and wish to continue expanding their language skills during the summer semester of their fourth year. The course focuses on practical language skills and covers all communicative components of the languagespeaking, writing, reading, listening comprehension, and cultural knowledge. Students are introduced to new topics, further expand their vocabulary, and learn to discuss current issues using new vocabulary and grammar. The course is taught by a Czech instructor (45 minutes per week, grammar) and a native speaker (90 minutes). The course also includes individual tutorials with a native speaker (once per week).
