Phylogeny, comparative morphology and classification of Hexapoda. Key morphological, physiological and ecological adaptations of important high level insect groups, their evolutionary history, including paleontological record, and zoogeography. Comparison of competing phylogenetic hypotheses based on morphological and molecular data, alternative classifications and the changes of classification in several last decades. Identification of worldwide representatives of high level classification units, such as orders, suborders and superfamilies, identification of selected family level taxa, which are important from the phylogenetic point of view, widespead and common families and economically important group. The course will be individually modified according to the specialisation of the student.
