Course content
1. History of ethology, methodological approaches to the studies of animal behavior 2. Genetic analysis of behavior and natural selection 3. Physiology of behavior 4. Ontogeny of behavior and biological rhytms. 5. Learning and cognition 6. Orientation and navigation 7. Migration, dispersion and habitat selection 8. Foraging 9. Antipredatory behavior 10. Sexual selection 11. Parental care 12. Living in groups, altruism and cooperation.

Lecture
  • Preparation for the Exam - 32 hours per semester
  • Attendace - 24 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Mechanisms and evolutionary consequences of animal behavior.
An understanding of the proximate mechanisms determining animal behavior. The knowledge how animal behavior affects individual fitness.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of genetics, physiology, evolutionary biology, and ecology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam

At least 70% of correctly answered questions.
