Course content
Lectures: Introduction to the formation of visual perception. Basic characteristics of sight and eye (vision, contrast sensitivity, field of vision, intraocular pressure) and their examinations. The eye and its optical system. Refractive erros of the eye - classification, symptoms, correction. Measurement of the parameters of the optical system of the eye, introduction to the examination of refractive errors. Changes in refraction during life, presbyopia. Methods of correction of refractive errors - spectacles, contact lenses, refractive surgery. Measurement of parameters of spectacles. Introduction to the of oculomotor deviations with a focus on adults, latent oculomotor deviations and their management. Learning outcomes
The course will provide students with an introduction to the basic areas of optometry, especially to the issue of refractive errors, including the possibilities of their correction, and to the field of binocular vision with a focus on adults and the issue of heterophoria. Students will also be briefly introduced theoretically and practically to related investigation methods, corresponding tools and devices.
