Course content
1. History of astronomy. 2. Radiation, radiation sources, black body, magnitudo, detection in different spectral bands. 3. Astronomical coordinates I - alt-azimuth, equatorial 1st kind. 4. Astronomical coordinates II - equatorial 2nd kind, ecliptical. 5. Ralationship between coordinate systems - daily/yearly motion, visibility of celestial bodies, twilights. 6. Motion of Sun, Moon and planets in the heavens, planet aspects. 7. Time, calendar, sideral time. 8. Corrections: precession, nutation, refraction, aberation, paralax. 9. Basics of celestial mechanics, orbital elements, Kepler laws, calculation of planet positions. 10. Solar system, transfer orbits, gravity assist. 11. Deep space objects, Milky way, local cluster of galaxies, supergalaxy. 12. Introduction to astrophysics, HR diagram, structure and evolution of stars, supernovae. 13. Basics of observational astronomy. Practical demonstration.

Learning outcomes
Basics of astronomy.
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to know and understand the syllabus topics and be able to use the acquired knowledge in solving problems. Emphasis will be on acquiring practical skills.
