Course content
In theoretical part of course following issues are solved: basic statistical concepts, graphical representation of geographic phenomena and their analysis; absolute, relative and cumulative frequency and the graphical representation, the basic statistical characteristics, depending random variables and their applications in geography, time series; GIS development, basic components of GIS, hardware demands and possibilities of use of modern technologies, software solutions and GIS software producers, data and data models in geoinformatics, digital data sources in the Czech Republic, technology and use of GPS. Practical part is aimed at work in computer laboratory and is concerned with: data sources for regional research in the CR and abroad, map servers, freeware GIS software and its application in thematic map creation, GPS mapping.

Learning outcomes
Course is oriented as a course to acquaint student with usage of statistical methods and Geographical Information Systems in Geography with an emphasis on the ability of practical use in geography: analysis and visualization of spatial data.
Recall and be able to apply the basic concepts and methods of statistics and GIS related to geographic research.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in the field of mathematics and information technology at the high school level. Ability to work independently on the computer.

Mark, Oral exam, Written exam, Student performance

Students will solve practical and written part of exam as a test of their knowledge. Processing of assigned tasks during the semester.
