Course syllabus 1) Theoretical framings and origins of environmental governance (history, key milestones, and theories). 2) Key principles of environmental governance (transparency, participation, justice, responsibility, effectiveness. 3) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - climate change. 4) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - water. 5) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - land. 6) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - biodiversity. 7) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - energy. 8) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - food. 9) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - environmental conflicts. 10) Causes and consequences of current environmental crisis - policies. 11) Environmental governance on local, regional, regional levels. 12) International institutions, agreements. Stakeholders in environmental governance and its reforms.

Learning outcomes
The module aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge about the origins, forms, principles and both theoretical and practical framings of the environmental governance that is built on the concept of sustainability as a basic axiom of our further societal, economic, political, and environmental development. The module elaborates on contemporary theoretical and practical knowledge and incorporates specific case studies that will assist students with better understanding of the settings of modern environmental management. The main elements of the module involve: i) the analysis of theoretical framings and origins of environmental governance; ii) an in-depth examination of the cases and experience with environmental governance on local, regional, national and international scale; iii) inquiry on tools, settings and ways, how theoretical principles of environmental governance are practically utilized.
