Course content
|
The course is delivered in the form of a professional internship at a selected workplace in public administration, local government, a research institution, a school, a non-profit organisation, or a private company that applies geographical knowledge and methods. The internship takes place either at one of the faculty's partner organisations or at another workplace approved by the course coordinator. The internship content primarily includes: 1. Becoming familiar with the organisation's activities, structure, and work processes. 2. Participating in professional tasks relevant to the focus of the study programme. 3. Working with geographical data, maps, and geoinformation technologies, depending on the resources and activities of the host organisation. 4. Contributing to the collection, processing, analysis, and interpretation of spatial and statistical data. 5. Participating in professional meetings, field surveys, or project activities. 6. Becoming familiar with the legislative and organisational aspects of geographical professions. 7. Regularly consulting the results of the internship with the workplace mentor and the academic internship coordinator.

Learning outcomes
|
Internship at a selected public or private institution whose activities correspond to the graduate profile, such as specialised units of state administration or local government at the municipal, regional, or central levelfor example, departments, divisions, and sections responsible for spatial planning, regional development, and related areas; non-governmental project, advisory, and consultancy agencies focusing, for example, on the preparation of strategic plans and services related to the design of efficient spatial locations; or institutions dealing with regional, social, economic, or environmental issues and spatial interactions.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: - apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies to specific tasks in professional geographical practice; - understand the activities of institutions, organisations, and companies that employ geography graduates; - use basic geographical methods, geoinformation technologies, and spatial data when carrying out professional tasks; - independently complete specific professional tasks under the supervision of staff from the host organisation; - communicate with professionals and work as a member of a team.

Prerequisites
|
The course builds on previous theoretical courses in which students acquire a foundation in geography that they will further develop during internships at public or private institutions.

|
Student performance
Requirements for receiving course credit: confirmation of completion of the internship by the mentor at the host institution and submission of an internship report to the academic internship coordinator.
