Course content
|
The course is intended for students with geology subject combination. The course is thoroughly devoted to project teaching (Inquiry based education) and is designed as a set of practical exercises with concrete outcomes to school practice. During the semester, students get to know with the historical development of project teaching (Inquiry based education) in the Czech Republic and in the world, with the current trends of this method, but also with the specific problems of introducing project teaching into school practice at present days. Emphasis will also be placed on the implementation of project teaching (Inquiry based education) in the specific conditions of Czech education system in accordance with the Framework Educational Program. Project teaching, Inquiry based education, basic characteristics, positives and negatives. History of project teaching in the Czech Republic and abroad. Project creation phase. Types of projects. Group work. Objectives of project teaching, pedagogical aspects of project teaching. Projects beyond one subject, cross-curricular relationships within projects. Projects implemented within one subject. Project teaching and internet. Project work at high schools.

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to acquire practical habits and instructions for working with pupils. Planning and creating own projects applicable in geology teaching at high schools.

Student Requirements. At the end of the course students should be able to: - define basic concepts (project teaching, project, project method, teaching method, organizational form, teaching strategy) - summarize the current state of knowledge of the project teaching - explain the negatives and positives of project teaching - to explain the main differences between project and project-oriented learning - name the phases of the project work - explain the benefits of project teaching in geology - know the procedures work when processing project - design, create, plan own project for teaching geology at secondary school. Credit: Active participation in seminars, elaboration and presentation of own project usable in teaching geology in high school Exam: Theoretical knowledge related to project teaching with a focus on geology.
