Course content
Get familiar with the instructions and requirements for writing a diploma thesis at the KBI PřF UP. Finding a research article published in an impact journal that is focused on the topic of the own diploma thesis. Preparing a presentation during which the student briefly presents an introduction to the issue, material and methods, achieved results, and conclusions drawn from them. The prepared presentation includes a brief introduction to the topic, supervisor, workplace, and goals of the diploma thesis or a topic that the student would like to address within the diploma thesis, and a discussion on the given topic. Output: Prepared presentation in PowerPoint.

Learning outcomes
Obtaining information necessary for the implementation of a diploma thesis and an overview of research activities in the field of cell biology, biotechnology, and molecular biology carried out in Olomouc. Improving the ability to briefly summarize the basic information and results of a professional scientific publication, to clearly process them in the form of a presentation, and present them to a wider audience.
Obtaining basic information regarding the requirements for writing a diploma thesis at KBI PřF UP. Obtaining an overview of research activities in the field of cell biology, biotechnology, and molecular biology carried out in Olomouc. Improving the preparation of a professional presentation and its interpretation. Developing the student's ability to analyze information and participate in a discussion on a research topic.
Prerequisites
For students in the 1st year of the follow-up master's degree programme in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Dialog, Seminar Work

100% participation in the seminar (1 absence for serious reasons is allowed; absence must be notified in advance via e-mail; exceptional situations will be handled individually). Preparation of a presentation based on a research article in an impacted journal, which is focused on a topic that coincides with the focus of the diploma thesis, including active participation in a discussion on a research topic.
