Course content
This course is an innovative combination of short theoretical lectures closely related to practical experiments on pre-selected student mini-projects. Content: -preparation of plant material -transient transformation of Nicotiana benthamiana -microscopic observation of transformed N. benthamiana leaves -microscopic observations of organelles and compartments in living cells (e.g. nucleus, plastids, plasma membrane, cell wall, cytoskeleton, endosomes of actin, microtubules and/or endosomes) in stable transformed Arabidopsis plants using GFP technology, vital staining or autofluorescence -image analysis -results evaluation -final presentation of the results by the students

Learning outcomes
Students will gain knowledge and skills in modern GFP technology including methods of plant transformation with recombinant GFP constructs and analyses of GFP expression in transgenic cells and organs using confocal laser scanning microscopy. Students will work in mini-teams (3-4) under the guidance of professional staff.
Students will acquire practical and theoretical knowledge and experiences in the field of GFP technology, advanced microscopy and molecular plant cell biology.

Prerequisites
Students should be enrolled in Master degree programs in chemical or biological disciplines at the Faculty of Sciences, Palacký University.
Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Systematic Observation of Student
Students should study Master degree programs in biological or chemical sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences UP. Students will present their results in small groups (prepared in Power Point) at the end of this course. The course follows the lecture Molecular cell biology of plants.
