Professional seminar for 1st year students. of the master's degree in the summer semester will be devoted to the issue of statistics. The course will explain both the theoretical foundations of statistical terms and methods, as well as practical examples of the use of statistics on biological data. The course will consist of the following chapters: Statistics as a real-world analysis tool (data collection, experiment design, types of variables); Data visualization (scatterplot, histogram), statistical analysis software; Basic means of descriptive statistics and their interpretation (characteristics of location (means, median, quantiles), variability (dispersion, MAD) and their graphic outputs (boxplot)); Relationships between variables (regression and correlation, their interpretation); Elements of probability theory (phenomena, probability, random variable and its relationship to a statistical sign, normal distribution); Principles of statistical induction (hypothesis testing, examples of simple tests, p-value and its interpretation); From unidimensional to multidimensional (multidimensional data, their typical problems - missing values, zeros; data transformation; relationship between variables - correlation); Visualization of multidimensional data (scatterplot, other specific graphic tools); The method of main components and its interpretation (construction, interpretation, graphic outputs - biplot); Cluster analysis (dendrogram, self organizing maps); Classification (FDA, PLS-DA); Case studies, comprehensive analysis of statistical data. Output: Developed project - statistical evaluation of own or entered biological data. Increasing the competitiveness of graduates on the labor market, strengthening self-confidence, independent thinking and interpretation of the obtained data from the point of view of statistics.

Seminar Work
The condition for obtaining credit is 100% participation in the seminar (possibility of replacing up to 2 absences due to serious reasons / substitute seminar work). As part of project teaching, independently (in groups) process a statistical evaluation of own or entered biological data.
