Course content
Introduction into genetics. Cell Division. Chromosomes. Mendel´s principles of inheritance, G. Mendel. Gene interactions, epistasis. Sex determination, drosophila, protenor, human, abraxas and habrobracon models. Gene linkage, T.H. Morgan, gene mapping. Nucleic acids, DNA, RNA, DNA replication. Central dogma - expresion of genetic information, transcription, translation. Mutations. Population genetics - Hardy-Weinberg label. Conseravtion genetics, protection of biodiversity, CITES. Human genetics. Seminary: Mitosis. Meiosis. Mendel´s inheritance. Gene expression. Human genetics, inheritance of Mendel´s linked marks.

Learning outcomes

Student is able to (after attending the course): - Explain the principles of Mendelian genetics and their exceptions - explain the principles of sex determination and inheritance of sex linked marks - describe the chromosomal basis of inheritance, and explain the principle and the importance of mitosis and meiosis - describe the molecular principles of inheritance, characterise the nucleic acids and the principle of gene expresion - describe the basis of population genetics, Hardy-Weinberg principles and factors affecting the HW balance - use and explain regular genetical terms and consequencies
