Course content
Selection of research area, its size and limits, characterization of its environment. Determination keys, national and regional floras, herbaria, databases. Principles of field phytosociological research. Principles of plant specimens colletion for scientific purposes. Growing and maintenance of living experimental plant material.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give an overview of teoretical basis and to teach practical skills necessary to conduct independent field research of flora and vegetation (e.g. within thesis). Main principles of collecting and storage of plant samples for molecular and cytogenetic analysis will be part of the course.
Basic knowledge of determination literature, floras and sources of environmental data. Knowledge of principles of specimen collection for herbaria and molecular and cytogenetical analyses. Ability to conduct independent research of flora and vegetation, including making phytosociological relevés. Understanding the importance of botanical field research in biology.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge on biology.
