Course content
Lecture "Aquatic microbial ecology" provides an basic overview of biology and ecology of microorganisms in water ecosystems, their importance in biogeochemical matter cycling and energy transformation, possibilities of using in anthropogenic system and their role in water borne infections

Learning outcomes
The course aims at presenting actual information and procedures from the branch. Major approaches, conceptual and theoretical topics are listed in syllabus.
At the end of the course the student is expected to: - have thorough understanding of the role of microorganisms in water ecosystems; - understand major methods used to determine both microbial community structure and activity - understand the fundamental role of bacteria in biogeochemical cycles of the basic elements - comprehend the role of water-born microorganisms in human health
Prerequisites
Elementary knowledge in microbiology and ecology.
