Course content
Part A: Algae The course take 6 weeks. Students learn how to determine the commonest algal species, using living material from nature and our collection, permanent slides and photographs. Part B: Fungi The practice in Systematics and evolution of Fungi are for 6 weeks. The practicals are focused on the most important representatives of groups of fungal organisms (life material, herbal items, photography), the main microscopic cognitive features are demonstrated in selected representatives.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Observation, Demonstration, Projection (static, dynamic)
Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the morphological variability and the ecology of cyanobacteria, algae and fungi.
Student should be able to (after attending the course): - Recall algal and fungal terminology - Describe main characteristics of groups (thallus morphology, pigments, storage material, reproduction, specific characteristics) - Recall basic principles of nomenclature and classification - Identify most common groups/species of algae and fungal organisms - List significance of cyanobacteria, algae, slime moulds, oomycetes, and fungi in ecosystems as well as their economic importance
Prerequisites
unspecified

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Requirements to the pre-exam credit: - successful passing the pre-exam credit test (part algae) - practical identification of algae and cyanobacteria in the extend of publication: Poulíčková, A., Jurčák,J. (2001): Malý obrazový atlas našich sinic a řas. Vydavatelství UP Olomouc. - successful passing the pre-exam credit test (part fungi) - practical identification of fungal organisms in the extend of the List of 80 species of fungal organisms that students obtain at the first lecture (part fungi), at the pre-exam credit, students receive 15 randomly selected species from the List
