Course content
|
Specific methods for their study: vital staining (mucilage, cell walls), isolation and cultivation (cyanobacteria, diatoms, green algae), DNA staining, fluorescence methods, kvantitative methods (Utermöhl method), permanent preparations (diatoms). Drawings and digital images, image plates mounting.

|
Detail view on individual algal systematic groups, their life strategies, life cycles and interactions with environment.
The aim of this course is to acquire basic skills in field technique - sampling, conservation, preparation. Student is able to obtain unialgal cultures for future use (DNA isolation). Student is able to document finding via indian ink drawing and prepare figure plate for publication.
