DNA structure and its function. DNA replication mechanisms and their regulation. Mutation and DNA repair mechanisms. Gene expression: transcription, translation and gene control. Structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic chromosomes. Genetic variability in bacteria. Sources of genetic changes in eukaryotic genomes. Sexual reproduction and gene reorganization. DNA technologies. Cell and membranes. Membrane transport of small molecules, macromolecules, and particles; exocytosis and endocytosis. Energy conversion in mitochondria and chloroplasts. Cellular compartments and transport. Cell-cell communication. Cytoskelet. Cell division. Cell cycle control and cell death.
